Turmeric Tamarind Jamu with Betel Leaves

Turmeric is the root of the Curcuma longa plant and has a tough brown skin and a deep orange flesh, coming in a perennial plant of the ginger family, and its mustard yellow powder is commonly used as a culinary spice in South Asia. However, Turmeric also has an active medicinal ingredient called Curcumin which has many anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-bacterial properties. The medicinal properties of this spice have been slowly revealing themselves over the centuries. It has been used to treat everyday problems such as indigestion and flatulence, as well as more serious problems such as arthritis, Alzheimer's disease, cancer, diabetes, HIV, high cholesterol, heartburn, jaundice, liver disorders, and menstrual disorders. Turmeric can also be applied topically in poultices to reduce inflammation and to relieve wounds, cuts, and bruises.

Moderate use of Turmeric powder as part of regular diet is fairly safe, and recent studies have found that a dosage of 500mg capsules of Turmeric three times per day is safe. However, prolonged consumption of high doses of Turmeric extract may cause stomach or liver distress, as well as dehydration and constipation. Therefore, it should be avoided by people with gallstones or bile obstructions. If you are currently taking blood thinners (including Aspirin), you should consult your doctor before taking Turmeric since it is an anti-platelet (prevents blood clots).


Turmeric usage in Indonesia as one of acidic drinks / Indonesian traditional herbal medicine is very common. One example is as in turmeric tamarind jamu. Jamu basically means “tonic” or “cure-all” and is a system of local healings throughout Indonesia. 
Jamu : {traditional medicinal concoctions made of herbs and plants} 
Most jamu are elixirs, but some can be body treatments such as creams or poultices. In this jamu, fresh turmeric root is juiced then mixed with turmeric juice, Betel leaves (Piper betle), honey, lime juice and water to create a refreshing, earthy drink. The brightly coloured turmeric stains your tongue a little bit but you can feel it seeping through your body doing good things to you. This jamu is common for women who are having incoming period to cope with pain and also after the period. Remember that the content of turmeric tamarind jamu can be trusted to cope with various diseases. This drink can be consumed regularly and definitely healthy.

Ingredients :
200 gram turmeric root, grated
200 gram seedles wet tamarind
5-8 pcs betel leaves
1 tsp salt
honey/sugar as sweetener
1/4 cup Fresh lime juice


How to Make :
1. Clean up continues grated turmeric or blender. Then filtered and take the water.
2. Boil the juice of turmeric, add tamarind, betel leaves and stir occasionally. Turn off the heat, then add sugar/honey and salt to boiling while in stir.
3. Chill. Add lime juice. Herbs turmeric tamarind jamu ready to drink, can also add ice cubes.

12 Tips Merawat Batik


Batik memang sedang tren. Namun, bisa jadi belum banyak orang yang mengetahui cara merawat pakaian batik agar warnanya tetap awet. Berikut ini sejumlah cara alternatif merawat batik kesayangan.

1. Saat mencucinya, gunakan sabun pencuci khusus untuk kain batik yang banyak dijual di pasaran.
2. Atau, cuci kain batik dengan shampo rambut. Sebelumnya, larutkan shampo di air sampai tak ada bagian yang mengental. Lalu, celupkan kain batik.
3. Mencuci batik juga bisa dengan menggunakan buah lerak atau daun tanaman dilem yang sudah diredam air hangat. Caranya, remas-remas buah lerak atau daun dilem sampai mengeluarkan busa, lalu tambahkan air secukupnya, dan siap untuk mencuci batik. Aroma buah lerak mampu mencegah munculnya hewan kecil yang bisa merusak kain.
4. Saat mencuci batik, jangan pakai deterjen dan jangan digosok. Jika batik tak terlalu kotor, cukup rendam di air hangat. Tapi jika benar-benar kotor, misalnya terkena noda makanan, bisa dihilangkan dengan sabun mandi atau kulit jeruk. Caranya, cukup dengan mengusapkan sabun mandi atau kulit jeruk di bagian yang kotor tadi.
5. Sebaiknya, jangan mencuci batik dengan mesin cuci.
6. Saat akan menjemurnya, batik yang basah tak perlu diperas. Dan jangan menjemurnya langsung di bawah sinar matahari. Jemurlah di tempat teduh atau diangin-anginkan hingga kering.
7. Saat menjemurnya, tarik bagian tepi batik secara perlahan agar serat yang terlipat kembali ke posisi semula.
8. Jika sudah dijemur, hindari menyetrika batik secara langsung. Jika batik tampak sangat kusut, semprotkan sedikit air di atas kain batik lalu letakan sehelai alas kain di atasnya, baru diseterika.
9. Bila Anda ingin memberi pewangi atau pelembut kain pada batik tulis, jangan semprotkan langsung pada kainnya. Sebaiknya, tutupi dulu batik tulis dengan koran, lalu semprotkan cairan pewangi dan pelembut kain tadi di atas koran.
10. Jangan semprotkan parfum atau minyak wangi langsung ke kain batik, terutama batik sutera dengan pewarna alami.
11. Simpan batik kesayangan Anda dalam plastik agar tak dimakan ngengat. Saat disimpan dalam lemari jangan diberi kapur barus, karena zat padat ini sangat keras dan bisa merusak batik.
12. Cara lain agar batik tak dimakan ngengat, beri sedikit merica yang dibungkus tisu di lemari tempat menyimpan batik. Atau, letakkan akar wangi yang sudah dua kali melalu proses pencelupan dalam air panas dan dijemur hingga kering.

Indonesian Condiment : Sambal Matah

Ingredients:
3-4 butir bawang merah, iris tipis
2 batang serai,iris tipis
5 cabai rawit, iris tipis
1 sdt terasi, bakar sejenak, haluskan
Sejumput garam
Sejumput gula (optional)
½ - 1 buah jeruk nipis
4-5 sdm minyak kelapa (jika bikin sendiri, panaskan santan hingga keluar minyak)

Directions:
1. Campur semua bahan yang telah diiris
2. Masukkan minyak sayur, terasi,garam dan gula.
3. Aduk dan remas semua bahan secara perlahan hingga tercampur rata.
4. Tambahkan air jeruk nipis, remas kembali
5. Siap disajikan.

Resep Martabak Manis

Barusan nemu resep yang sudah dicoba teman nih. Daripada bingung mau dicatat di mana, aku upload ke blog aja.
terigu 500gr
telur 2
gula 100gr
susu/santan cair 750ml
ragi 1 sdt
baking powder 1 sdt
vanila+garam
baking soda 1sdt
Campur semua bahan,kecuali baking soda,aduk sampai licin, diamkan min.1 jam.
Panaskan teflon dgn api kecil.
Tuang baking soda sesaat sebelum adonan dipanggang,
Tuang adonan sekitar 2-3 sendok sayur ke wajan yg telah diolesi mentega.
Tunggu sampai adonan bolong2,taburi gula pasir. Tutup wajan sampai permukaan adonan tidak lagi basah,angkat,olesi mentega, beri isi sesuai selera,lalu susu kental manis.
